I would like to do a little update on our bedroom. It's pretty sparse at this time.
Okay here is what I am dealing with. Prepare yourself. . .
My nightstand has most of my favorite items from the room. I LOVE mother of pearl and add a touch of it in every room if possible. This picture frame is actually the third item in the room but the other two were so subtle I just wasn't satisfied.
I included this picture to show you the sea shell. I'm toying with the idea of adding purple to the room and this shell seems to be the perfect inspiration for it with both light and dark purple in one place.
You like the trampoline in the corner? There are a few items that have made their way into the room that do not belong there but space is limited and I think we were having guests so a few items were stowed in our room and there they stayed.
Also the position of some of our pictures and wall hangings are a little odd due to the different ways the room has been arranged. The bed used to be under our wedding picture and the shelf wasn't there. I've thought about moving the wedding picture over the bed again and re-centering the shelf but then there are more holes in the walls and well that's why things are a little odd.
I'm willing and happy to change out these frames and the curtain is simply a means to an end. Notice the touch of Mother of Pearl on the ends of the curtain rods.
Oh my, the closet needs new curtains to cover it but I don't know what color/style/pattern!!!
This is my other little stash spot. previous to putting this book shelf in our room my night stand was piled high with books. More recently I cleared out the second drawer in my nightstand for books. Until I have another child in which case the books will have to make way for nursing pads, diapers and wipes for night time feedings. But we have a minute or two before that happens, Lord willing. Another of my favorite items here is the elephant book end and the cream pot atop the dresser.
Okay so this is the base I am working from. My ideas include:
Painting the nightstands white
Either painting the walls or adding another coat (I suspect there is only one coat currently)
Throwing away the fake plant and replacing it with a real one

I'm in love with white furniture, shapely lamps, and the vintage accessories in this room.
Here is a yellow-walled-room as an example. I wish against wishes that our room was large enough for a trunk at the foot of the bed but alas it's not. You know what they say, wish in one hand and . . . well never mind.
This one looks a little messy which fits us. I think I am leaning toward white duvet covers and pretty sheets, throw pillows and coverlets to add the color for the most part.
Here are my color options that I have found. . . Here is where I really need your opinion. I have wavered between a simple green, gray, blue scheme but that seemed too hotel and not enough country. I tend to lean toward green, blue, and yellow for the bedroom. But I'm also not against a little purple or pink to add a little something something.
I like the blue, light green and dusty pinks but there's no yellow.
Like these but . . .something is missing
This one seems pretty complete but I'm not sure what to put where. So please help!!!

I am a very bad advice-giver (plus, you should see my sad bedroom). However, the FV library has lots of great books with decorating ideas, too. I've used some of them in the past. -kdk
I like the idea of green, grey and blue. You can always add punches of color here and there with smaller decor items like trays or candles. If I had endless energy, time and money for your room I would paint all the furniture and shelving white. I would hang the curtain rods right up against the ceiling and hang matching drapes like these at Young House Love. http://life.younghouselove.com/2012/01/its-curtains-for-burger/ Then I would prop your pillows up against the headboard in some white pillowcases and add some throw pillows in front of them.
The February issue of Better Homes and Gardens (or maybe it was January) featured purples as their color of the month. They had some pretty examples of using it in bedrooms--for walls or accents. I've wanted to use a purplish tone of gray for our guest room as well...my southeastern Idaho husband objects. I suppose you can relate : )
Oooh! Fun! So, off the top of my head... I would go with good neutrals like green, gray and blue, for sure. Then use interchangeable punches of color, patttern, sparkle and texture. This is totally my opinionated self speaking out here, but I would tend to get away from purples and pinks... although a great strong plummy purple would be ok I think, but a lot of football teams paint their visiting teams locker rooms pink or lavender purple for a reason... it works very effectively at subliminally sapping men of manliness, etc., I for one really like my man to be as manly as possible in the master bedroom, so that's my personal view of that subject, ha! But, ANY color would work great with the green gray blue combo. You could do yellows, oranges, reds, that purple, whatever, and it would go great.
I would definitely paint all the furniture a matching shade of white. That would help it appear coordinated, even if none of your pieces are actually from the same furniture sets. :-) That's actually way more interesting to my eye. Chatty's idea of hanging all your curtains at the ceiling is a really good one, it will make the room appear bigger by lengthening the height of it. I would go with a silky, texturally exotic fabric for both the closet and the window to make it really grown up in there and retreat feeling, and your sweet furniture and pillows and colors will add the touch of country. Or do the top bulk of the curtains with a great taffeta or something, and then pick a sweet coordinating fabric for the bottom foot and a half of it or so. I could go off on curtains--so I will stop now. I have a curtain passion problem. :-) Let me know if you want help with those, I've made a large number of draperies for different styles and rooms, they are way easy and custom anything is groovy. :-) Oh yeah, check fabric.com and joann's clearance for that stuff, I did curtains for our whole house in wenatchee for less than $200. So, you should be able to find something that would be cheaper than buying, for sure.
One more thing. If you don't like the way your pictures are hanging, take them down. Holes in walls are easy to fix... it takes less than 10 minutes. Putty knife, wall patch (toothpaste works in a pinch), and a quick slap of paint over the top. It won't be any worse than a picture arrangement that annoys you. I'd really think big for wall hangings too though. People think that hanging a bunch of little pictures in small rooms is better, but it's actually less restful because the eye can't find a place to rest. Take one big picture you love, or hang all of yours close enough to resemble one big picture.(In our room I painted canvasses for the girls, gave them paint only in the colors that I wanted them to use, and told them to go to town. That is what is hanging in our master bedroom right now, I love them.)
